There's a Playground at the School!

Updated: Apr 7, 2023

A few days ago, the school in Twashuka opened up for the first semester of the year! The week before, many parents and children came to help clean the school and get it ready for classes. The teachers were also able to have a PTA meeting with the parents and guardians of the children a few days before opening, which helped put everyone on the same page.

We’ve had two major blessings happen recently that I really wanted to share with you.

Last semester, the school was in desperate need of many different textbooks, but we saw no way of getting them since they are so expensive right now with Zambia’s inflated economy. We were hoping to possibly just buy one book in each subject and then photocopy the pages for the students, but even that would have been expensive. Then, at the end of the year, we were blessed by a donation specifically for textbooks.

Through that, we have been able to purchase many different textbooks in subjects like English, math, science, Bemba, etc. It’s such a huge blessing for the children and the teachers! Florence, who teaches grades two and three, said: "Thanks to everyone who made it possible. It will be very helpful and make it easier to teach!"

The second blessing happened a few weeks ago.

Around Christmas time, we were visited by a Catholic organization from Germany. Charles’s spiritual mother works alongside this organization and she led a group to the Copperbelt province in Zambia, where they stayed for two weeks. During this time, they visited the school and were very impressed by our commitment and passion to serve the vulnerable within our own community. They wanted to bless our ministry and saw playground equipment as a practical way to do that. Over the last few weeks, it’s been installed on the school property and it’s been so neat to see the children’s excitement. It’s a simple gift, but it has brought so much joy to the children of Twashuka and we are so thankful for it! It's something we've wanted to do since the beginning, but have never had enough resources to be able to do it. So we're so excited to finally have this playground equipment at the school!

Lastly, I wanted to share a prayer request with you. Lately, Zambia has been getting a lot of rain, which has caused flooding. A lot of crops that will sustain people throughout the year are being destroyed by the flood. This will very likely create famine through Zambia. So please keep these people in your prayers! Pray that God will stop the flooding and that he will provide for those who have already lost their crops due to the flood waters.
